Vancouver author's book a sales sensation

New York — Even for an Oprah Winfrey book pick, A New Earth has been a sensation. About 3.5 million copies of Vancouver-based author Eckhart Tolle's spiritual self-help guide have been shipped since Winfrey announced her selection four weeks ago.

The book has topped the bestseller list on Amazon.com virtually from the moment Winfrey's choice was revealed and is the fastest-selling pick ever at Barnes & Noble, Inc., according to a statement issued yesterday by Winfrey.

It's also a record shipment in a four-week span for any book by Penguin Group (USA).

When God's divine love rises as a wave, it washes away the sins of the
whole life in a moment, for law has no power to stand before love: the
stream of love sweeps it away.

All the beauty that there is in life is after all what we call love.
From it all the virtues spring. The whole beauty of life is in it, and
it is as the English song says, 'The light of a whole life dies, when
love is done'. Life's light is love; and when the heart is empty of
love, a man is living and yet not living; from a spiritual point of view
he is dead. When the heart is asleep, he is as though dead in this life,
for one can only love through the heart. But love does not mean give and
take. That is only a trade; it's selfishness. To give sixpence and
receive a shilling is not love. Love is when one loves for the sake of
love, when one cannot help but love, cannot do anything but love. Then
one is not forced to love; there is no virtue in that. One does not love
because another does. It is simply there. It cannot be helped. It is the
only thing that makes a person alive. If a person loves one and hates
another, what can he know of love? Can you love one person fully if
at the same time you cannot bestow a kind glance on some other person?
Love is like the water of the Ganges. It is itself a purification. 'God is love'.
When love is awakened in the heart, God is awakened there. When a man
has journeyed, he reaches the goal as soon as his heart has reached
love.

The divine place, paradise, is the heart of the human being'.
That is why he has respect for every heart. For in this heart is God.

In order to relieve the hunger of others, we must forget our own hunger.

Commentary by Hazrat Inayat Khan:

Riches and power may vanish because they are outside of us, but only that which is within can we call our own. In order to awaken love and sympathy in our hearts, sacrifices must be made. We must forget our own troubles in order to sympathize with the troubles of others.

To relieve the hunger of others we must forget our own hunger. Everybody is working for selfish ends, not caring about others, and this alone has brought about the misery in the world today. When the world is evolving from imperfection towards perfection, it needs all love and sympathy. Great tenderness and watchfulness is required of each one of us. The heart of every man, both good and bad, is the abode of God, and care should be taken never to wound anybody by word or act. We are only here in this world for a short time; many have been here before, and have passed on, and it is for us to see that we leave behind an impression of good.

There are however blessed souls, souls who are really satisfied and whose hunger is stilled by seeing another person eating or who are happy seeing another person adorned with beautiful clothes. It might seem to us a great renunciation or self-denial; but they have been given a cross to bear and have risen above it. Sacrifice gives no pain; it only gives pleasure.

Love another and do not depend upon his love; and: Do good to another and do not depend upon receiving good from him; serve another and do not look for service from him. All you do for another out of your love and kindness, you should think that you do, not to that person, but to God. And if the person returns love for love, goodness for goodness, service for service, so much the better. If he does not return it, then pity him for what he loses; for his gain is much less than his loss.

Happiness lies in thinking or doing that which one considers beautiful ~

on selfishness. It is only giving and taking. It is nor a joining
of hearts, neither Dharma. This love is just for self-interest
and nothing else. Those who show affection to even those who do
not reciprocate their love are like parents, full of karuna. Here
lies pure and spotless Dharma."

The solar eclipse on February 6, 2008 is one of the more
interesting ones I have seen in a while. Not only will there be
an eclipse at that time, but retrograde Mercury will be directly
conjoined the sun and moon at the time it is eclipsed. Mercury
will be closer to the Earth at that this time than he is at any
other time, making him very powerful.
I see this Mercury retrograde as being good for Gemini and Virgo
ascendants, if they're willing to take a chance -- especially in
the occult areas of life, and especially for Geminis, who have
had Mars back and forth in their first house for close to four
months at this point. Were ever the sign of Gemini falls in your
chart could see a release from this eclipse. For those with a
Gemini ascendant, sidereal zodiac, this eclipse could declare a
major reversal of recent frustrations for them. I say this
because an eclipse is very powerful, and not necessarily for "bad
things". It shows unusual events and generally will support a
spiritual or otherworldly expression.
But in general, this eclipse is buttressed by a Sun/Saturn
exchange. The sun is in Capricorn, ruled by Saturn and Saturn is
in Leo, ruled by the sun. This type of interaction is a powerful
glue that tends to hold actions together, despite negative
circumstances that may arise. Thus, the sign of Capricorn is also
very activated by the eclipse. Those with a Capricorn ascendant,
sidereal zodiac, must watch their health for the next six months.
But those with the Capricorn ascendant who have had some health
difficulties, may find some relief in the occult methods or some
unexpected breakthroughs at this time.
This eclipse happens in the Nakshatra of Dhanista, ruled by Mars
-- who just started moving forward again in Gemini. This
Nakshatra is related to wealth and sustenance of all sorts. It is
where many different ideas become forged into something new and
innovative. The deity are the eight Vasus - an amalgam of
energies taken from the gods Indra, (lightning) Soma, (nectar)
Kubera, (wealth) Agni, (fire) Yama (restraint / death). This is
the Nakshatra or Mars is exalted, giving skill to use these
universal forces creatively and alchemically. The exaltation
point of Mars is symbolic of the kundalini, the burst of fire in
the seat of the spine.

Eclipses are always a good time for introspection and meditation.
This would be a good day to fast or just eat lightly and
contemplate the nature of the self.

SADASHIVA

A great soul dedicated to bringing enlightenment to this world has left the planet today, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Here are some of his words from decades ago:

"Enjoy your life and be happy. Being happy is of the utmost importance. Success in anything is through happiness. More support of nature comes from being happy. "Keep your desire turning back within and be patient. Allow the fulfillment to come to you. Gently resist the temptation to chase your dreams into the world. Pursue them in your heart until they disappear in the Self, and leave them there. It may take a little self-discipline. Be simple, be kind, stay rested. Attend to your own inner health and happiness. Happiness radiates like a fragrance from a flower and draws all good things toward you. Allow your love to nourish yourself as well as others. Do not strain after your needs of life. It is sufficient to be quietly alert and aware of them. In this way life proceeds more naturally, effortlessly. Life is here to enjoy."

Praying for wise choices, propelled by integral, wholistic motivations to infuse the american people today. The voted outcome will reverberate into the entire global stratesphere and hopefully uplift us with soul values dictating the evolution of the people, so we may experience ourselves as truly ONE.
