Blessed Navaratri

May the GODDESS shower all HER boons and blessings upon the world and guide us toward balance, with and without.

AUM DUM DURGAYE NAMAHA AUM!

off line for navaratri times ~ sept 29-oct 11

The exact new moon occurs on Monday, Sept. 29, at 4:13 pm EDT in
Toronto, and in Gujarat, India it will be on Sept. 30 at 1:43 am, IST.
The new moon occurs at 6° 36' Libra in Line 1 of the I Ching hexagram
31: "Influence, Wooing". The image is the lake on the mountain. The
association is pleasure without and stillness within. One is challenged to
remain calm and exercise restraint in order to maintain inner composure.
To be carried away in the happiness of the moment will diminish
character.
In meditation, one needs to enjoy the stillness and be content within.
Here one is tempted to accept contentment without. The warning is
about inappropriate receptivity and yielding at the wrong time.
With the sun and moon together in Libra there is a tendency to share
and enjoy. This new moon is ruled by Venus, the goddess of attraction
and repulsion. The sensitivity of this seed moment will be experienced
through a test of values. Attracted or repulsed you are still attached to
outer pleasures. True value lies within. If you settle for less then you will
deserve what you get.
Our desires tend to go outward and lead to attachments. If we can turn
our desires inward, contentment will not be far behind. Venus rules the
voice and singing. There is a difference between producing sounds in a
scale and varying them, and feeling deeply within what one is voicing.
Chanting in time develops a deep inner feeling, a true faith in the name
of God. This Libra new moon provides a wonderful opportunity to vitalize
and enhance that inner faith. Will you be attracted to the outer sounds
and stimulations or to the inner splendour of the unstruck sound?
When the name of God is repeated as a discipline a very special
relationship occurs. It is true that God is everywhere, but different
choices will produce different effects. Chanting is a way to positively
influence the quality of one's choices. Personal preferences can be
transcended by chanting. Why choose a jewel when you can be radiant
light?

Chanting on the New Moon will enhance and empower inner feelings.
When you are chanting God's name, God is there.
The more you chant God's name the more God is there. It's as simple as that.

3 CUPS OF TEA
by
greg mortenson + davider oliver relin,

outstanding!

In order to relieve the hunger of others, we must forget our own hunger.

Riches and power may vanish because they are outside of us, but only that which is within can we call our own. In order to awaken love and sympathy in our hearts, sacrifices must be made. We must forget our own troubles in order to sympathize with the troubles of others.

To relieve the hunger of others we must forget our own hunger. Everybody is working for selfish ends, not caring about others, and this alone has brought about the misery in the world today. When the world is evolving from imperfection towards perfection, it needs all love and sympathy. Great tenderness and watchfulness is required of each one of us. The heart of every man, both good and bad, is the abode of God, and care should be taken never to wound anybody by word or act. We are only here in this world for a short time; many have been here before, and have passed on, and it is for us to see that we leave behind an impression of good.

The sacred Feminine ~

A few years ago, astronomers announced the discovery of a shiny red
planet-like world orbiting the sun far beyond Pluto. They called it Sedna, a
name they said was derived from the Inuit deity that created the Arctic's
sea creatures. But the truth about the myth of Sedna is more
complicated.

She is the Dark Goddess, embodiment of the wild female potencies that
are feared yet sorely needed by cultures in which the masculine
perspective dominates. Dwelling on the edge of life and death in her home
at the bottom of the sea, Sedna is both a source of fertile abundance and
a mysterious prodigy. Shamans from the world above swim down to sing
her songs and comb her long black hair. If they win her favor, she gives
them the magic necessary to heal their suffering patients.

The Beauty and Truth Laboratory enjoys entertaining the possibility that
the discovery of Sedna is an omen signaling our collective readiness to
welcome back the long-repressed influence of the Dark Goddess.

mindfulness ~

"There is an endless net of threads
throughout the universe.
The horizontal threads are in space.
The vertical threads are in time.
At every crossing of the threads, there is an individual.
And every individual is a crystal bead.
And every crystal bead reflects
not only the light from every other crystal in the net,
but also every other reflection throughout the entire universe"

--The Rig Veda (Rig Veda version by Frank Joseph)

Will power ~

Will power is the keynote of mastery, and asceticism is the development of will power.
Commentary by Hazrat Inayat Khan:
The first exercise to help the will power to develop would be to check every act, word, and thought which we do not wish to occur; to avoid unintentional actions, speech, and thoughts. The other exercise that is necessary for the development of the will power is that of seeing that neither our mind nor our body rules us, but that we rule our body and our mind. Desires such as appetite, thirst, sleep, even the desire of moving or standing or walking, all these desires should be under control. There should be a time in every day when every desire of the body is checked. See if you can do it; and then as long as you can let the body go without listening to it, do so.

Moose Luxury ~

A Canadian moose can now walk in peace and safety all the way to South
America, thanks to Harrison Ford. He and other celebrities with wealth and
influence quietly worked together for years to purchase land along
corridors that connect various wildlife refuges and national parks.

Meanwhile, Canadian government officials report that their country, the
second largest in the world, plans to create ten giant national parks and
five marine conservation areas. The new sanctuaries, when added to the
existing 39 national parks, will double the amount of protected land.

sharing your breath ~

Quoting geneticists, Guy Murchie says we're all family. You have at least a
million relatives as close as tenth cousin, and no one on Earth is any
farther removed than your 50th cousin.

Murchie also describes our kinship through an analysis of how deeply we
share the air. With each breath, you take into your body 10 sextillion
atoms, and—owing to the wind's ceaseless circulation—over a year's time
you have intimate relations with oxygen molecules exhaled by every
person alive, as well as by everyone who ever lived. Right now you may be
carrying atoms that were once inside the lungs of Malcolm X, Christopher
Columbus, Joan of Arc, and Cleopatra. (Source: Guy Murchie, *The Seven
Mysteries of Life*)

Rumi's The Guest House ~

This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival. A joy,
a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an
unexpected visitor. Welcome and entertain them all! Even if they're a crowd of
sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture, still,
treat each guest honorably. He may be clearing you out for some new delight.

Quote of the Week ~

"See good, do good, be good."

-Sathya Sai Baba

You Don't Have to Act Crazy Anymore ~

You don't have to act crazy anymore --
We all know you were good at that.

Now retire, my dear,
From all that hard work you do

Of bringing pain to your sweet eyes and heart.

Look in a clear mountain mirror -
See the Beautiful Ancient Warrior
And the Divine elements
You always carry inside

That infused this Universe with sacred Life
So long ago

And join you Eternally
With all Existence - with God!

--Hafiz, translated by Daniel Ladinsky

GOD alone ~

God alone deserves all love, and the freedom of love is in giving it to God.

The one thing to rely upon is God's favor. Do not build either on your study or on your meditation, although they both help you. But you are dependent on God, not even on your Mentors. Seek Him, trust Him. In Him lies your life's purpose, and (in) Him is hidden the rest of your soul.

Whom should one love, how should one love? Whatever one loves -- whether duty, human beings, art, friends, an ideal, or one's fellow-creatures -- one has certainly opened that door through which to pass in order to reach that love which is God. The beginning of love is an excuse; it leads to that ideal of love which is God alone.

by Hazrat Inayat Khan (unpublished)

Beginning to Be. . .

I absolutely love this poem by Vaclav Havel, a playwright who spent
four years in prison for his human rights activism, only to triumph to
become president of the Czech Republic,

It is I who must begin ...Once I begin, once I try - here and now, right where I am, not excusing myself by saying that things would be easier elsewhere, without grand speeches and ostentatious gestures, but all the more persistently - to live in harmony with the "voice of Being," as I understand it within myself - as soon as I begin that, I suddenly discover, to my surprise, that I am neither the only one nor the first one to have set out upon that road ...
Whether all is really lost or not depends entirely on whether or not I am lost ...

Devotion ~

Devotion to a spiritual teacher is not for the sake of the teacher, it is for God.

In the history of the great and holy beings of the world the greatest and the most blessed have been the devotees. ... devotion teaches one virtue; sincerity, earnestness, the sense of duty: all different virtues come by devotion. A person who is devoted to anyone in the world, to one's father or mother or brother or sister or children or friend, has taken the first step in devotion. But the one who shows his devotion in the spiritual path to his teacher he has taken his second step. He has only to take one more step and he will be there. And that will be the devotion to his ideal.

happy full moon ~ and ME retro upcoming:

Mercury is once again in retrograde motion beginning September 24th 2008. You may already begin feeling the shadow of this astrological influence. Here is western perspective from my long time friend, famous astrologer Julie Simmons from Toronto:

" This mercury retrograde is in Libra. As it goes retrograde it conjuncts Mars and trines Neptune. Many people think of Libra as a sign of balance, like the scales that represent it. But those scales are not as easily balanced as they appear. To find balance one must weigh and measure. To create equilibrium often requires challenge and negotiation. Mars is the planet of strife. Mars tends to energize as well as separate. Neptune is the planet of transcendent longing. Neptune reaches for ultimate beauty and idealism. Imagine we have a cauldron. In it we will put Mars and Mercury in Libra as well as Neptune in Aquarius. Then we will stir it backwards. We may find ourselves longing for peace even as we go to war to have it. We may find ourselves aspiring to all that is beautiful and true in the human spirit even as we disturb that beauty by absolutely misunderstanding what it was trying to express. Alignment will remind us to move with grace through the mined field of our delusions and to listen to the other guy without anticipating what they will say. An open mind will invite a much different experience of this Mercury Retrograde than a self righteous one. " - Julie Simmons

Evil + World order ~

"We are experiencing the initiation of the human race into a new level of
consciousness, and that is a very terrifying experience. It does no good to
turn and run from the terror of our darkness into light; we must sit it out:
zazen.

"We must take our counsel from *The Tibetan Book of the Dead* and
realize that these frightening projections of famines, economic disasters,
ecological catastrophes, floods, earthquakes, and wars are all only the
malevolent aspects of beneficent deities. If we sit and observe them, do
not identify with them, but remember our Buddha-nature, we will not be
dragged down by them into an incarnation of the hell they prefigure.

"If we run from them, we validate them; we give the projections the very
psychic energy they need to overtake us. Then, as Jung has pointed out,
the situation will happen outside as fate."

-William Irwin Thompson, *Evil and World Order*

Venus - IT'S IN THE GENES

Researchers at Emory University found that humans are biologically
programmed to be nice. Their study used magnetic resonance imaging to
scan the brains of women who were playing a game called the Prisoners'
Dilemma. While seeking the goal of financial gain, the women could
choose between collaborative or self-aggrandizing strategies. Whenever
they opted for the former, the parts of their brains correlated with
reward-seeking behavior lit up.

"The longer the women engaged in a cooperative strategy, the more
strongly flowed the blood to the pathways of pleasure," wrote Natalie
Angier in her account in *The New York Times.*

Naked-Eye" Gamma Ray Burst Aimed Directly Towards Earth"

From Mitch Battros - Earth Changes Media

NASA's Swift satellite detected the explosion on March 19 - formally named GRB 080319B
- at 2:13 a.m. EDT that morning and pinpointed its position in the constellation
Bootes. The event, called a gamma-ray burst, became bright enough for human eyes
to see. Observations of the event are giving astronomers the most detailed portrait
of a burst ever recorded.

"Swift was designed to find unusual bursts," said Swift principal investigator Neil
Gehrels at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. "We really hit the
jackpot with this one."

Immediately after the blast, Swift's UltraViolet and Optical Telescope and X-Ray
Telescope indicated they were effectively blinded. Scientists initially thought
something was wrong. Within minutes, however, as reports from other observers arrived,
it was clear this was a special event.

An Historic Day for Canada...

A New Chapter in the Politics of Health
The Canadian Charter of Health Freedom is launched.

Today, September 10, 2008 marks a momentous milestone for Canada, and possibly the world. Today the Canadian Charter of Health Freedom as written by Shawn Buckley of the Natural Health Products Protection Association (NHPPA) is launched.

The Canadian Charter of Health Freedom gives us an exciting fresh focus for change and our freedom to choose.

Health Freedom and Election Call in Canada
The election means Bill C-51 and Bill C-52 are no longer an immediate threat to our freedom to choose. New bills will have to be drafted and introduced all over again.

Bill C-51 attempted to treat Natural Health Products as drugs. And Bill C-52 was presented as a needed safety measure so readily sailed through Parliament and was in the hands of the Standing Committee on Health. Canada already has laws in place to ensure safety.

The Canadian Charter of Health Freedom, once passed into law, will ensure Canadians have the freedom to access safe Natural Health Products.

Self pity ~

Self-pity is the cause of all life's grievances.

If one studies one's surroundings one finds that those who are happy are so because they have less thought of self. If they are unhappy it is because they think of themselves too much. A person is more bearable when he thinks less of himself. And a person is unbearable when he is always thinking of himself. There are many miseries in life, but the greatest misery is self-pity.

Self-pity is the worst poverty. When a person says, 'I am...' with pity, before he has said anything more he has diminished himself to half of what he is; and what is said further, diminishes him totally; nothing more of him is left afterwards. There is so much in the world that we can pity and which it would be right for us to take pity upon, but if we have no time free from our own self we cannot give our mind to others in the world. Life is one long journey, and the further behind we have left our self, the further we have progressed toward the goal. Verily when the false self is lost the true self is discovered.

Chanting to the DIVINE MOTHER this sunday~

Dear Friends,

As every month, on the first Sunday, there is a free Meditation
Satsang held here at the OMpalace from 2pm to 4pm ~ Sunday Sept. 7th
All are welcome,
Please call / email to confirm your attendance ASAP.
In meditation, significant personal effort is required to keep the mind
controlled. One must learn to turn the attention of the mind and its
inquisitiveness directed inward towards the unstruck sound.
With the sun and moon together in Virgo there is a tremendous surge to
analyze and express criticism. To keep the mind silent is an eternal
spiritual struggle. Chains of thoughts keep the heart locked up.
Heartfelt sincerity has the ability to silence and properly direct the mind
inward. In this Kali Yuga, a soul can gain enlightenment simply by chanting the
name of God/dess. Chanting is a remarkable spiritual tool which
gives us the ability to control and silence the mind. Chanting is the fresh air
that can remove old negative attitudes, doubts, and thoughts. By chanting God's
name we can even remove the greatest fears within ourselves. The
challenge here is to do your own chanting and to mind one's own inner business.

Virgo is ruled by Mercury, the planet of the mind. It is so easy to
criticize at this time. It will require a major effort to turn off the mind
now. The mind makes up time and reads meaning into the sequence of events.
HA! What is time to God? Just keep chanting and true heart felt feeling
will develop. When you are chanting God's name, God is there. The
more you chant God's name the more God/dess is there. It's as simple as that.
Chanting puts a song in your heart and light in the darkness.

An Experiment with Joyful Thoughts -

Joyful Thoughts, September 2008

It has been shown that thoughts create vibrational shifts in how we feel
so I have decided to put it to the test and send out a joyful thought a day
and encourage each of you to join me. I welcome joyful thoughts that have
come to you to be added to the list. So feel free to reply with another
joyful thought that I will then add to the thought for the day list.

This will be a 30 day experiment. Now this is not a scientific
experiment, it is an intuitive experiment to ask each of us to pay
attention to our own thoughts throughout the day and notice how we feel at
the end of the day, at the end of the week, etc. There is plenty out there
to be sad about these days and I keep getting all this information that we
are being asked to let the sadness flow out through our beings and remember
the joy so we can begin to live from this place here on earth.

What you may begin to notice is that more of the negative emotions might
begin to surface. I believe this has to do with a need to release the old
before our being has room for the new. Therefore, let the feelings rise,
notice them, do not give them your attention, immediately replace it with a
joyful thought so the feeling can be let go. This is like the build up
that happens in the pipes and sometimes we can just keep running water
through them and it clears, sometimes we can plunge it quickly and it
clears and other times it takes a roto-rooter to push the build up through
so the joyful thoughts can stay and run clear. Pay attention to what you
need to hold the joyful thought for long periods of time.

Agama Yoga ~

The biggest news right now: we are at the doorstep of Swami's third
North American tour, which begins this week! See the tour schedule

to synchronize with this year's lectures and workshops in Toronto
and Picton, Ontario, as well as Ottawa, Vancouver, and Monterrey,
Mexico.

It is I who must begin ...

Once I begin, once I try - here and now, right where I am, not
excusing myself by saying that things would be easier elsewhere,
without grand speeches and ostentatious gestures, but all the more persistently - to live in
harmony with the "voice of Being," as I understand it within myself
- as soon as I begin that, I suddenly discover, to my surprise, that I
am neither the only one nor the first one to have set out upon that
road ... Whether all is really lost or not depends entirely on whether or not I am lost ...

Pleasure blocks, but pain clears the way of inspiration.

Pain has a great power; the truth of God is born in pain, sincerity rises out of pain. Metaphysically, the heart is a gate, and the gate is closed when the feeling is hardened, and the gate is open when there is some pain.

a pure life ~

A pure life and a clean conscience are as two wings attached to the soul.

A pure life is the term used to express the effort of man to keep his spiritual being untainted by the false values of the worldly life. It is the constant search for the original self, the desire to reach it, and the means employed to recover it, which alone can truly be called purity of life. ... When this purity is reached man lives in virtue. Virtue is not a thing which he expresses or experiences from time to time; his life itself is virtue. Every moment that God is absent from the consciousness is considered by the sage to be a sin; for at that moment the purity of the heart is poisoned. It is lack of life which is sin: and it is purity of life which is virtue. It is of this purity that Jesus Christ spoke when he said, 'Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.'

Life is differentiated by the pairs of opposites.

Joy and sorrow both are for each other. If it were not for joy, sorrow could not be; and if it were not for sorrow, joy could not be experienced.

If there was no pain one would not enjoy the experience of joy. It is pain which helps one to experience joy. Everything is distinguished by its opposite. The one who feels pain deeply is more capable of experiencing joy. And personally, if you were to ask me about pain, I should say that if there was no pain life would be most uninteresting to me. For it is by pain the heart is penetrated, and the sensation of pain is deeper joy. Without pain the great musicians and poets and dreamers and thinkers would not have reached that stage which they reached and from which moved the world. If they always had joy, they would not have touched the depths of life.

There is the sun and there is the moon, there is man and woman, there is night and there is day. The colors are distinguished by their variety and so are the forms. Therefore to distinguish anything there must be its opposite; where there is no opposite we cannot distinguish. There must be health in order to distinguish illness; if there were no health and only illness then it would not have been (distinguished as) illness. ... Life is a puzzle of duality. The pairs of opposites keep us in an illusion and make us think, 'This is this, and that is that'. At the same time by throwing a greater light upon things we shall find in the end that they are quite different from what we had thought.
