Fiery Mars stationing now (slows down to a standstill from our perspective) to go retrograde today, on a Tuesday (the day of Mars), in Capricorn for the first time since July 10, 1971!
Mars is visible rising in the SE night sky about two hours after the Sun sets. It is very bright (the third brightest planet in the night sky after Moon and Venus) from July 7 - September 7. In 2003 Mars was about 34.6 million miles (55.7 million km) away from Earth, closer than it has been in almost 60,000 years!
Mars will be 1.2 million miles (just under 2 million km) farther away in 2018 than it was in 2013 - still VERY close! The closest Mars will be to earth in 2018 is on July 31, four days after it opposes the Sun.
Since Mars is stationing to go retrograde, it is exceptionally strong right now. For some that is an experience that can be perceived as useful, and not so much for others. A lot depends upon the individual chart and rising sign. Regardless, this is a very unique transit and if we are aware of the energy at hand and channel it in a balanced manner it can be very advantageous!
Mars strong in Capricorn is excellent for:
- courage
- athletic ability
- martial arts
- hard work
- competition
- physical energy and stamina
- leadership and logistics
A very strong Mars has a shadow side as well, again depending upon the individual chart. It will be important to be aware of the shadow side of Mars energy that can manifest for ANY of us during this transit as:
- anger
- impatience
- warlike tendencies
- violence
- overbearing qualities
- difficulties with superiors
Happy transits!
