" We cannot think of sun rays without the sun, or of milk without whiteness. Similarly, we cannot think of Shakti without Brahman, the eternal, all pervading - Consciousness, or Brahman without Shakti. Likewise, Mother's lila, cosmic sport, is unthinkable without creation, and creation is unimaginable without Mother's lilas. Jagan Mata is Lilamayi, one who enjoys cosmic play. When involved in the cosmic activities of srishti, sthiti and laya- creation, preservation and dissolution - Para Shakti, Jagan Mata assumes the forms of Iccha Shakti, Jnana Shakti and Kriya Shakti - Lakshmi, Saraswati and Parvati. When not engaged in these functions, Mother is visualized as Omkara. Though Mother, supreme Shakti is one, Her names and forms are legion- millions and billions! The same Mother Divine who is extolled as Brahmamayi, supreme Consciousness, by jnanis, is called Atman or Om by yogis. Devotees worship that very Mother as Bhagavati, the supreme , effulgent Divinity, in countless male and female forms. Children simply call Her their mother - Amma- that is enough for the Mother ; it is enough that the child knows her own mother."
